I started working for the Council as the Responsible Financial Officer (RFO) in August 2002. In addition to this role I became the Town Clerk in November 2003. As the Town Clerk and RFO, I create financial reports and maintain budgetary controls to enable the Council to comply with Audit and Accounting regulations. I also ensure that the Council transacts its business lawfully and in a transparent manner, and provide objective, professional advice and support. I gained the Certificate in Local Council Administration in 2005 and the Higher Certificate in Local Policy at Gloucester University in 2008. I currently sit on the Branch Executive for the Society of Local Council Clerks representing West Somerset on the Somerset Branch. I have lived in Minehead with my husband for 25 years where we raised our two sons.
I was born and raised locally in Roadwater and moved to Watchet in 2015. Myself and my family enjoy the community spirit of the town. I attended the local West Somerset Community College where I obtained a Distinction in Advanced business studies A-Level. I then went on to work for the Banking industry for 11 years where I progressed to a fully qualified mortgage adviser. I am excited to be part of the Council team, where I can utilise the administration experience I have gained over the years. As clerical officer, my role is very varied, I am Committee clerk for the Watchet Community Centre Management, the Wednesday Market manager/administrator, administrator for Watchet Cemetery burial authority, and provide administrative support to the Clerk and other members of the team. I am currently completing my Certificate in Local Council Administration (CiLCA) qualification, to further my career within the council.
I spent my childhood in Torbay, then moved to Williton with my parents in 1990 and completed my education in Minehead. I studied for a City and Guilds in childcare and my work placement for two years was at Knights Templar Playgroup, as it was then known. My main working environment since has been office based, as a receptionist/admin for a local construction company and a legal secretary for a firm of solicitors in Minehead. I lived in Cyprus for a couple of years with my husband and young children and now live in Bishops Lydeard. My Mum now lives in Watchet and I joined Watchet Town Council in 2019.
I started working for the Council as the Groundsman in November 2001. I am responsible for the upkeep of municipal areas within Watchet including the parks, cemetery and seasonal floral displays. My other duties include supervising the Wednesday Market Set-Up team and the general maintenance of Council property. I was born in Watchet in 1977, educated in Watchet, Williton and Minehead, and I attended Cannington College 1994 – 1996 where I gained a National Diploma in Sports Turf and Golf Course Management.
I started working for the Council in January 2017 as the Operations Assistant. My main responsibility is to assist the Groundsman with the day to day upkeep of the municipal areas, and to ensure the functionality of the Harbour Road Public Conveniences. My other duties include assisting the Watchet Market Set-Up team and carrying out the Safety Maintenance schedule at the Watchet Community Centre I’ve lived in Watchet all my life. In my youth I played sport for the town. I obtained a City & Guilds and worked within the Printing industry for 36 years. I’ve now joined the small team working for Watchet Town Council serving the town I know so well.
