There are major ongoing schemes in the Bridgwater area that require significant roadworks:
- The multi-billion-pound Agratas battery facility on the Gravity Campus in Puriton, and other work associated with the Gravity site
- Somerset Council’s own Dunball roundabout upgrade
- The Celebration Mile works as part of the Bridgwater Town Deal regeneration project
These are essential works supporting major investment and long-term improvements to the local network, but we appreciate they cause disruption.
The Council’s Streetworks Team is in constant dialogue with all contractors, coordinating their access to the road to try and minimise the impact and avoid overlapping works and traffic management.
Next phase of roadworks
The next stage of works in support of Gravity/Agratas start next week.
Crandon Bridge
Temporary traffic lights at Crandon Bridge on the A39, from Tuesday 4 March to Tuesday 18 March.
This is to allow further work to connect the Gravity site to the power grid. We appreciate this is likely to cause disruption at peak times, so drivers are urged to plan ahead.
Woolavington Road
Phased closure of sections of Woolavington Road, starting on Monday 14 April for up to five months.
This is to allow work to connect the Gravity site to various utilities. This will affect sections of the road between the Enterprise Way roundabout and Woolavington Village. After discussion with contractors, these works have been aligned to happen at the same time and minimise disruption.
All residents and businesses will be catered for and will be able to access their properties throughout these closures and will be contacted directly by the contractor. Details of which sections will be closed when will be shared locally when finalised. Gravity and Agratas’ contractors will be doing their best to complete the works in less than five months.
Dunball roundabout link Road
Overnight closures (7.30pm to 5.30am) of the A39 link road between the Dunball roundabout and Junction 23 of the M5 on Monday 3 March, Thursday 3 April to Monday 7 April; Monday 12 May to Wednesday 21 May.
This is to allow further work to increase the capacity of the roundabout.
Eastover and Clare Street in central Bridgwater
Eastover and Clare Street are currently closed to allow the work on the multi-million-pound Celebration Mile regeneration project.
Both streets are scheduled to be reopened before the end of July.
Please note: Further works will be needed later in the year on the A39 Bath Road and A39 Puriton Hill to complete the power connection for the Agratas site, but this will not happen at the same time as the Woolavington closure.
